I’ve come to believe one simple truth: you're always just one book away from unlocking your child’s enthusiasm for reading.

As a teacher, I’ve watched hundreds of children transform from reluctant readers to confident Page Masters — all because they stumbled upon that one story. As a parent, I’m on the same journey with my own children, discovering the magic that happens when the right book meets the right moment.

Reading Isn’t Just a School Skill — It’s a Life Skill

In our house, it’s a form of winding down. It's that quiet moment after a busy day when everything slows, and we sit with a story. For us, bedtime stories aren’t just tradition — they’re connection. And in the car on the way to school, we chat about what we read, weaving stories into our everyday routines.

This is why reading is such a powerful screen-time alternative too. When a book becomes their go-to, it replaces those long stretches on a tablet with something more meaningful. Books feed imagination. Screens can entertain, but books? They transform.

The Right Book Changes Everything

If your child hasn’t fallen in love with reading yet, it doesn’t mean they’re not a reader — they just haven’t found their book. Sometimes it’s a silly story, sometimes it’s a comic or graphic novel, and sometimes it’s a rich, picture-based book like the ones my daughter enjoys. For others, like my son, it might be something like Fantastic Mr. Fox that lights the spark.
